What are some of the warnings or precautions?
Allergies and Medical Conditions - If you have kidney disease, are on hormone replacement therapy or have throat or gastric emptying problems, Fosamax should be used with caution. If you experience problems sitting or standing 30 minutes after taking Fosamax let your doctor know. Those patients who take Fosamax run the risk of esophageal problems.
Pregnancy or Breast-Feeding - Although Fosamax’s primary purpose is to treat osteoporosis in woman after menopause, if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant, ensure the potential benefits outweigh the possible risk to the fetus. Drug Interactions - Patients on Fosamax should watch their intake of antacids and calcium since these both decrease the absorption of the drug, decreasing its therapeutic effects.
